Hunan Information

Situated in the south central region of Mainland China, the Hunan province is an area of 211,800 square kilometers, with a cultivated area of approximately 9,500,000 acres. The province consists of 14 cities and 122 counties, with more than 66,900,000 people including 50,770,000 working in agriculture. Known for its vast agricultural resources, Hunan is rich in rice, oil plants, pork, ramee, fruit, tea, tobacco, cotton, poultry, freshwater fish, cultured pearls, etc. "Hunan" means "south of the lake" -- it is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and south of Dong Ting Lake. By the end of 2002, the aggregate number of foreign-funded projects approved by the province had come to 6464, the contracted value of foreign investment amounted to USD 9.67 billion and actually utilized amount of foreign funds totaled USD 7.084 billion.
